Athanasios Oikonomou
Athanasios Oikonomou is a PhD student in the COMP3D group. He earned his Pharmacy degree from the University of Nicosia in 2022 and became a licensed pharmacist. With a strong interest for research, he completed his MSc in Drug Discovery and Development at the University of Vienna, with his thesis titled "A Pharmacophore-based Approach to Identify Natural Products as Selective DYRK1A Inhibitors". Currently, his research focuses on applying cheminformatics and molecular modeling in the early stages of drug discovery for natural products. As part of the “Anti-Infectives Drug Discovery” (AIDD) consortium, his work centers on the computer-guided identification and optimization of small molecules targeting Pseudomonas and Candida.
